Voices of the Future – One Health Communication on Antimicrobial Resistance
Science Communication
We teach children aged 6 to 12 how antimicrobial resistance (AMR) develops.
Through OH-KAMR, we aim to raise awareness among children, young people, and families of the connections between health, the environment, and agriculture, with a particular focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Antibiotics save lives. However, when they are used too frequently or incorrectly, bacteria can adapt, making these medicines less effective.
To help prevent this problem through education, we make scientific findings accessible and engage young people where they are open to new experiences: during their leisure time and school holidays. So far, the One Health approach has rarely been integrated into educational activities outside the classroom. OH-KAMR addresses this gap through accessible, everyday science communication with a strong regional focus on Western Pomerania.
At the heart of the project is the development and testing of a modular educational trail, designed in collaboration with partners from tourism, environmental education, agriculture, and local authorities to ensure its long-term integration into the region. A child-friendly story featuring a mascot guides young visitors through the individual stations. Bilingual information boards (German/English) present the content in an interactive and easy-to-understand way.
What We Aim to Achieve:
- Age-Appropriate Science Communication for Children Aged 6–12
- Educational Trail with 4–5 Stations
- Co-Creative Development with Regional Partners from Tourism, Education, and Agriculture
- Raising Awareness of One Health and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR)
- Long-Term Development of a Replicable Science Communication Model in the Region
Children and young people explore One Health and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through everyday experiences during their leisure time, developing a practical understanding of how they can take action.
Within the T!Raum One Health Region Vorpommern initiative, we are establishing new pathways for knowledge transfer to ensure the long-term integration of One Health topics in rural areas.
